Maryborough State High School

Regional School

Maryborough State High School is located in the town of the same name at the mouth of the Mary River, just 30 km from Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast. In the 19th century, Maryborough was an important trading center for agricultural goods, not least because of its harbor, which today is only important for pleasure craft. This heyday is reflected in the many Queenslander-style buildings. Part of Maryborough State High is also housed in buildings of this style.

Maryborough State High School offers a flexible learning environment with a variety of academic, athletic, cultural and community programs. The school is large enough to offer such an extensive program of courses, but small enough to develop a personal relationship with all students. In 2022, the school received the Excellence Award “Best Government Secondary School” for the fourth time.

At Maryborough State High School there are many opportunities to develop and encourage creativity. Numerous ensembles invite students to play musical instruments, sing or develop individual skills in theater, visual arts or dance. Everyone can find their voice in the school choir. More experienced singers have the opportunity to apply for the Vocal Academy.

In Drama Club, everyone can develop their acting skills and perform in Maryborough State High School’s annual Drama Night or play.

In the drone program, students learn to design, build and pilot drones.

Nearby Hervey Bay is the starting point for the World Heritage-listed K’gari (the world‘s largest sand Island), where some of the best whale watching in the world is possible. For international students there are a wide range of activities throughout the year including Rainbow Beach Surf School, Whale Watching, Camping Adventures, a Lady Musgrave Island Tour and trips to K’gari. A great opportunity to meet other internationals. These activities are optional and are organized at affordable prices.
