William Ross State High School

Regional School

William Ross State High School is located in Annandale, a suburb south of Townsville. It is an innovative high school with a flexible curriculum that offers customized learning with excellent support options.

The curriculum includes Marine Science and Aquatic Practices which includes marine excursions and camps to nearby Magnetic Island.

Marine related courses also include “Aquaculture” with fish and crab rearing. In the “Pond-to-Plate” program the breeding results are deliciously prepared and eaten in the commercial school kitchen.

The school also has a proud sporting tradition, which is reflected in the excellence program (including year 9) – the Rhinos Sports Academy – that has led many talented athletes to success in regional and national competitions. In the senior secondary school it offers excellent sports teams in the disciplines of AFL, Basketball, Cricket, Football (Soccer), Hockey, Netball, Rugby and Touch.

William Ross State High School has only been participating in Queensland’s student exchange program since 2017, so there are unlikely to be many internationals there at the moment, making it easier to befriend Australian classmates.
