The Whitsunday Anglican School is located in the northern part of Mackay in the charming tropical north of Queensland. It is a lively high school with boarding facilities for students from more remote parts of Australia as well as for international students.
It is one of the best schools in Queensland in terms of academic achievement. In 2018, it was a finalist in the “Regional School of the Year” category at the first Australian Education Awards. The criteria for this category were based on academic achievement, high standards of teaching and learning and a commitment to innovation.
Also in 2018, Whitsunday Anglican School developed a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathmatic) elective taught in grades 5 to 10. Students can also participate in the CoDrone Educational Program, where students build drones in the classroom.
Whitsunday Anglican School has a very good outdoor education program as a compulsory part of the curriculum. The “Outdoor Education Week” takes place every year in September.
The students in the boarding school live like one big family. All have their own desk, cupboard and wall space for pictures and schedules. The bedrooms have fans and are air-conditioned. There are also common rooms, kitchenettes, TV areas and a small library.
