Wesley College

Private School

Wesley College is the first International Baccalaureate World School in Victoria to offer the framework of the IB curriculum from early childhood learning to Year 12. The College is one of the largest in Victoria and is spread over three different campuses. The Elsternwick Campus houses the Early Childhood Learning Centre, a Junior School and a Middle School. The St Kilda Road Campus which houses the Middle and Senior School is only a few minutes away from Melbourne’s Central Business District. The sprawling Glen Waverley Campus comprises junior, middle and senior schools, each with age-specific learning, recreational and social areas, as well as world-class sports facilities.

Wesley College has a tradition of broad academic success and student excellence in both the IB Diploma and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). 99% of students are offered university places after graduation.

The school’s facilities are extensive. The Natural Sciences area alone comprises 11 laboratories for biology, chemistry and physics, reflecting a professional research environment. In practical lessons, students have access to the latest scientific equipment – from DNA analysis in biology to the operation of spectrophotometers in chemistry and understanding the physics of balloon-powered vehicles created with 3D printers. These incredible opportunities cut across virtually every department at every site.

A highlight of Wesley is the performing arts program, which attracts hundreds of students each year. Under the direction of directors, choreographers and musicians, ten first-class performances are put on stage each year. These include six musicals and four plays in a lively mix of genres. Students are involved in all aspects of the production – not only on stage, but also in the music, backstage and in technical roles such as sound and lighting.

At Wesley College, the concept of learning goes beyond the traditional classroom to encompass a variety of settings, contexts and physical locations that provide students with real learning opportunities. These include not only the theatre and musical performances, but also three outdoor education camps in Victoria – Chum Creek, Lochend and Camp Mallana.

The Glen Waverley campus is also home to Wesley’s boarding school, known as “Learning in Residence”. Boarding is only available for students in Years 10 to 12 and is integrated into the Senior School. It provides a safe and supportive environment for students coming from Greater Melbourne, rural Australia and international locations in Asia and Europe. There are twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms, a central courtyard and a shared dining room seating 240. On campus, which is adjacent to the Upper School, boarding students have direct access to the sports centre, tennis courts, music and theatre studios, libraries and an indoor swimming pool. A dedicated team of mentors, teachers, nurses and psychologists are on hand to provide support.

Wesley College is also ideal for international players who want to play tennis at the highest level. The school has teamed up with XSOAR Perform, a Melbourne-based company for top sporting performance, to set up a high-performance tennis and school programme for aspiring tennis players in grades 7 to 12. The programme helps students balance the demands of daily training and competition with school, friends, homework and extracurricular activities. Athletes enrolled in XSOAR have access to the most modern sports facilities on the Glen Waverley Campus as well as several leading facilities in Melbourne.
