St Hilda’s School is located on a 14-hectare campus with gardens and bushland in Southport, an hour’s drive south of Brisbane and just four kilometers northwest of Surfers Paradise.
St Hilda’s School has a strong academic program and an advanced curriculum with a personalized approach to education. More than 90% of students in the graduating classes go on to university. A broad-based curriculum in the fields of business, art, engineering, music, medicine and law helps to achieve this. St Hilda’s School also offers comprehensive programs in music, art, theater, debating and public speaking.
Regular classes are complemented by a wide range of extra-curricular activities. For example, St Hilda’s School has a long tradition of theater as both an academic subject and an extra-curricular activity. Many of the senior students are also involved in social work, supporting the homeless in and around Surfers Paradise as part of the “Rosie’s Friends on the Street” program.
The school accommodates over 180 girls in its residential boarding houses, from grades 6 to 12. There are supervised preparation or study periods, tutoring in core subjects after school and evening tutoring by boarding school tutors. In their free time, the students have the opportunity to explore the Gold Coast. They can visit theme parks, go for nature walks, take trips to the beach, ride bikes, go rock climbing and much more.
St Hilda’s School aims to deliver strong academic performance, particularly in STEM subjects, with higher self-esteem and well-being. However, it also offers some opportunities for interaction with boys of the same age from the nearby partner school, Southport School, for “life outside of school”. The two schools often take part in dances, sports afternoons, beach activities, barbecues, quiz nights and film screenings.
