Scotch Oakburn College is spread over three separate campuses. The Junior School together with the College Boarding House and 25 meter swimming pool are located on the picturesque grounds of Elphin Campus, with its beautiful gardens and century-old oak trees.
The Middle and Senior Schools are located on the Penquite Campus, two kilometres away. Penquite Campus boasts many, well-equipped facilities including the Scotch Oakburn Park Sporting Complex with its excellent sports facilities and access to the College Wetlands on the North Esk River, used for artistic, scientific and environmental studies.
The College has its own outdoor and environmental centre in the Fingal Valley, just an hour’s drive from Launceston. The Outdoor Education programme run out of this centre is an integral part of the Scotch Oakburn curriculum and includes accommodation, a high ropes course, a lake for rafting and other water activities, vegetable gardens and direct access to the South Esk River and adjacent nature reserves. Horses and horseback riding are extremely popular at the College. If interested, internationals can arrange for a horse to be made available to them through the school.
Scotch Oakburn College has a very strong arts program. In the Visual Arts, a wide range of opportunities are offered including painting, ceramics, photography, printmaking and sculpture. The College has its own photography studio with backdrops and studio lighting, a darkroom, a ceramics area with a wheel and kiln, and a range of artists’ tools and equipment.
Within the Performing Arts, students can take part in theatre and musical productions. Students can get involved in production and backstage work when putting together College productions which gives them hands-on experience in presenting performances.
Scotch Oakburn College has a co-educational boarding house which accommodates up to 80 students, including Internationals, in recently refurbished accommodation. Single rooms are available for Year 11 and 12 students. It is a 20-minute walk to the Penquite campus, or borders can take the school bus. Exciting excursions and weekend camps are regularly organised for boarders.
