Sandringham College

Sandringham College is located in the southeastern Bayside suburbs of Melbourne and only 1,5 km from the beach. The city centre of Melbourne is about 15 km away. Although it is only a medium-sized school, it offers a wide range of courses, two thirds academic and one third vocational.

Sandringham College has a strong focus on STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), which is supported by newly built, state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces.

In addition to the standard subjects, there is a focus on art with a wide range of dance, drama and music. Dance Academy students participate in weekly classical ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and pilates classes alongside their core academic subjects. Students attend additional workshops and excursions throughout the year to expose them to a wide variety of dance and performing arts experiences.

There is also a strong focus on technical-creative courses such as photography, video production, product design (textiles and wood) and digital media including software development and programming. Sandringham College rightly has an excellent reputation for its good programs in the field of performing and visual arts.

The range of nature-related subjects is also very extensive. Particularly popular are “Outdoor education and environmental studies”. In this study, both passive and active outdoor experiences provide essential means for students to develop experiential knowledge of outdoor environments. Activities undertaken could include bushwalking, cross-country skiing, canoe touring, cycle touring, conservation and restoration activities, marine exploration, and participation in community projects.

The College boasts a large variety of extracurricular facilities including Ski Camp, Year level camps, Surf Competitions, Interstate Performing Arts Tours, Public Speaking Competitions, Great Victorian Bike Ride, Writer’s Festival, Graduation Art Exhibition, Interschool Sports, Robotics Science Extension, Soccer Challenge, The Victorian Model Solar Car Challenge and more.

In the last school year (Year 12) no uniform is required. The atmosphere is more like an university than a school. The teachers are very friendly and helpful. In return, independent and committed learning is expected from all students as well as a willingness to perform well in chosen subjects.
