Queechy High School

Queechy High School is located in Norwood, a suburb of Launceston, just five minutes from the city centre. It has a spacious school campus with many green spaces close to large parks and the North Esk River recreation areas.

Queechy High School is very active in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and offers its students several excellent opportunities. These include the F1 in Schools program, where students design and build a miniature car, and the Submarines in Schools program (see video below), where students explore engineering, coding and electronics to design and build working miniature submarines. Here, the school has already won the Australian championship once. With access to Autodesk software and several 3D printers, students can also design other items and make their own creations.

ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is known in the Australian curriculum as ‘Digital Technologies’ and places an emphasis on areas such as coding, data, algorithms and digital literacy. Queechy HS offers range of electives, including graphics and animation, digital photography and filmmaking.

Business and Computing focuses on business topics such as commerce, branding and crowdfunding. The development of a business idea, market research, competition, future forecasts, business management and marketing are central components of the curriculum.

In drama, important focuses are on Cooperation, communication, creativity and developing self-confidence are important focuses of the Drama curriculum at Queechy.

Extracurricular activities at Queechy High School include school camps, Grade 10 Celebration Dinner, presentation evenings, debating, Next Gen Business Challenge, the Music Showcase and the Science and Engineering Challenge.

A buddy program supports all students to integrate into the school and Tasmanian life in general.

Throughout the year, concerts take place with the opportunity to play in front of a large audience. The final concert of the year is the “Queechy Music Showcase“.
