NSBC Cromer Campus

The Cromer Campus of Northern Beaches Secondary College is located in Cromer, a quiet residential suburb about 20 kilometers northeast of Sydney’s CBD. The school is part of the famous Northern Beaches region, which stretches about 30 kilometers from Manly to Palm Beach and includes more than 20 beaches. Popular beaches such as Dee Why Beach, Curl Curl, and Narrabeen are just a few minutes away, and Manly Beach is about a 25-minute bus ride away. Despite its proximity to Sydney, the area feels relaxed and close to nature.

Cromer Campus does not focus on a single academic area in high school but offers a remarkably broad range of subjects that equally cater to interests in the natural sciences and technology, the arts and languages, and the social sciences and philosophy. This diversity is made possible by the fact that Cromer is part of Northern Beaches Secondary College—a network of five school campuses with a shared curriculum that gives its students access to more than 100 different subjects. Through so-called cross-campus courses, students can even take subjects taught only at one of the other four campuses.

Students interested in the natural sciences will find a comprehensive range of options, including earth and environmental sciences; those interested in technology can specialize in subjects such as Design and Technology, Engineering Studies, or Software Engineering. Artistically gifted students can choose between dance, theater, music, and visual arts. The program is complemented by hands-on vocational education and training (VET) courses, such as those in hospitality, business services, or information and digital technology.

The school features a large, purpose-built gymnasium with gymnastics equipment, a well-equipped weight room, several multipurpose courts, and a large sports field. The sports teams regularly compete against other schools in the region. As a member of the Sydney North Combined Associated Schools association, Cromer also participates in interregional competitions in baseball, hockey, softball, snow sports, and surfing. Recreational sports options include surfing, bodyboarding, and fishing—perfect for the school’s location right on the Northern Beaches.

In addition to regular classes, the Cromer Campus offers a diverse program of extracurricular groups: several orchestras and bands, an art club, a debate team, a chess club, and a homework club. Older students can also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
