Mountain Creek State High School is located four kilometers inland from Mooloolaba, a resort town on the Sunshine Coast with great beaches and excellent surfing. Behind the beaches lies the hinterland, featuring exceptional viewpoints and national parks with hiking trails through the rainforest.
Mountain Creek State High School is the largest school on the Sunshine Coast and one of the largest in Queensland. For the sake of clarity, it is organized into four separate schools. This allows it to offer all the benefits of a large school—such as a wide range of subjects and activities—while also providing the advantages of a small school, such as a personal relationship between teachers and students. Consequently, the school has an excellent reputation for outstanding achievements in the areas of academics, culture, community, and athletics.
For high-achieving students, Mountain Creek State High School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12—a globally recognized high school diploma and an alternative to the regular Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
The subjects Marine Science and Aquatic Practices are very popular. The school has its own boats for this purpose, and upperclassmen in the Marine Science course take an annual field trip to various destinations on the Great Barrier Reef.
Another area of focus is ballet. The school’s own Dance Company offers students with a passion for or knowledge of dance a wide range of opportunities, including jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and lyrical ballet. Students also have the opportunity to collaborate with local guest artists on the development of new pieces.
The school’s athletic programs include AFL, basketball, and rugby league excellence programs. Each of these programs is led by highly qualified specialist coaches who have extensive playing and coaching experience at the state, national, and international levels.
The Mountain Creek Rugby League Excellence Program is an elite training and coaching program designed for talented male and female rugby league players in grades 7 through 12. The program works closely with several clubs, including the SC Falcons, the Brisbane Broncos, and the Dolphins.
