Mount Gambier High School is located 460 km from Adelaide in south-eastern South Australia. Mount Gambier is the regional centre of the Limestone Coast, surrounded by the natural beauty of volcanic craters, lakes, limestone caves and underground waterways. The town and school are located near the beach surrounded by several wineries.

Mount Gambier High School is very strong on sports and outdoor education. Alternatively, students interested in the creative arts can take courses in dance, design, theatre, media studies, music, theatre production and visual arts. The school also encourages entrepreneurial skills and interests with relevant programmes included in the curriculum.

Students in grades 9 to 12 have the opportunity to work in woodworking, metalworking, electronics, robotics and photography. All programmes of study have direct links to local commerce. Special programmes are also available for music. A large theatre performance is held every year.

The school recently received millions of dollars in government funding, which has resulted in extensive renovations and improvements to the Collaborative Learning Centre, library, all classrooms and technology rooms. Mount Gambier High School has also recently started a collaboration with Flinders University.
