Indooroopilly State High School, commonly called “Indro”, is located in Indooroopilly, a southwestern suburb of Brisbane. The school is only 7km from Brisbane City centre and the University of Queensland is only 2km away. Indooroopilly State High School is known for its teaching excellent, its very good facilities and high academic performance. It not only maintains good connections to universities such as the UQ mentioned above, but also strives to create a uni-like atmosphere at the school itself. For example, students here do not wear uniforms.
In recent years, Indooroopilly State High School has significantly improved its students’ chances for university studies and other challenging professional training through new innovative programs. These include the International Baccalaureate Diploma, Spanish Immersion program (teaching various subjects exclusively in Spanish), intensive learning programs in mathematics, engineering, music and Chinese, the Cisco Networking Academy, and a challenging program in art education. At the same time, the school has expanded with several new buildings, including the Peter Doherty Theatre and a state-of-the-art language centre. These buildings complement the older Queenslander-style buildings and the campus, which extends over many hectares with native trees and green spaces.
Indooroopilly State High School is also one of the few schools in Queensland to offer the subject “Aviation” as part of its curriculum for older students at an extra cost. It is part of the Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program run by Aviation Australia and the Government of Queensland.
