Immanuel College

Private School

Immanuel College is a school of the Lutheran Church of Australia and is located in Novar Gardens, just five minutes from unspoilt beaches and ten minutes from Adelaide city centre. The 18-hectare campus with extensive, modern specialist facilities creates a strong learning environment in an inspiring atmosphere that encourages thinking on a large scale. With students from all parts of Australia and around the world, the school creates an engaged community where everyone can belong.

Immanuel College has won awards for its progressive approach to education, innovative classrooms and world-class sports, arts and learning facilities. This allows each student’s education to be tailored to their individual needs and promotes academic excellence.

The “Seniors” are housed in the ultra-modern Margaret Ames Centre, which includes studio rooms, an open learning centre, Upper School administration and a 200-seat auditorium. Large glass walls invite students to share the learning experience, while the environment can be varied from day to day with individual furniture. The rooms can be easily rearranged, so it is sometimes difficult to tell where one class ends and the next begins. Designer furniture is abundant, almost every surface is a ” write-on” wall or a ” write-on” desk, and state-of-the-art technology is everywhere. This design concept complements the approach to treat high school students as young adults.

In addition to the excellent academic courses on offer, Immanuel College has an excellent drama programme where students’ dramatic skills in the areas of acting, design, script writing, directing and light/sound are developed. A professional and fully equipped theater provides for an authentic theater experience where several performances are staged each year and enjoyed by a sold-out audience. In addition, the extracurricular program offers a complete school production, culminating in a public performance over two evenings, as well as drama workshops during school holidays. At Immanuel, dance is also part of the extracurricular programme where hip-hop dance is popular.

Sport is a highlight at Immanuel College. There are more than 150 teams and over twenty-five sports. The sports center is open 16 hours a day.

Immanuel College regularly wins the award for best tennis school in South Australia with many top class players competing at national and international level. In the Immanuel Premier League Team they compete against other top colleges in Adelaide. International students can also participate in all competitions if they qualify. There are 12 tennis courts at the school and more at the easily accessible State Tennis Center in the city.

Another outstanding discipline is swimming with the Immanuel Piranhas, who are divided into different levels, so-called “squads”. The highest level, the Gold Squad, is a performance-oriented squad whose goal is to achieve top results at the National Age Group and Open Championships. The college has its own two swimming pools for training.

The boarding school of Immanuel College has 170 beds, accommodation is provided in a two-storey main building and a further eight fully equipped houses. The boarding facilities are coeducational to promote the development of healthy relationships and good social skills.

Immanuel is a warm, caring community that fosters a sense of belonging and builds friendships for life.
