Ferny Grove State High School

Ferny Grove State High School is located in a beautiful bushland area only 12 km from the centre of Brisbane with excellent public transport links. There are many cycling and hiking trails nearby, as well as the Samford and Bunyaville National Parks.

Ferny Grove State High School is large enough to offer a large variety of subjects and courses, making it an attractive program for everyone, while ensuring that each student is valued and supported as an individual.

The school runs an excellence program for instrumental and choral music. The rationale behind this program is that playing music benefits cognitive, intellectual and social development, while at the same time supports learning in other areas such as language and mathematics. Ferny Grove State High School has developed its own teaching methods to help students hear how musical elements relate to each other and how to successfully convey the appropriate overall theme to an audience. This is one of the reasons why students continuously present their musical achievements in public concerts, culminating in the annual gala concert which takes place over three evenings in August.

Every year during the winter holidays, students in Years 11 and 12 have the opportunity to take part in a week-long ski trip (depending on snow conditions) to the ski areas of Mount Kosciuszko Park in NSW or The Remarkables in New Zealand. Ski and snowboard courses of different levels of difficulty are offered daily.
