Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is located in Gelorup, a southern suburb of Bunbury, Western Australia’s second largest city. The 33-hectare campus is close to the beach and surrounded by natural bushland. The region offers plenty of space, clean air, and a safe environment.

The school places great emphasis on academic quality, personal attention, and holistic education. Small class sizes allow for individual attention to each student’s needs. The focus is on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), the arts, and sports.

Performing Arts are a particular strength of the school. Students can participate in orchestras, ensembles, choirs, and theater productions, and special music lessons are also offered. As part of the Visual Arts and Media programs, students work in specialized studios. Regular performances and exhibitions are part of the school calendar.

Sports play a central role at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. The school regularly participates in national sports competitions throughout Australia and sends a large group of athletes to the Country Week Carnival in Perth every year.

There is a particular focus on swimming. For over 20 years, the school has supported students in participating in the Rottnest Channel Swim and is one of the few schools that regularly fields its own team for this challenging event. All students take part in a swimming program at the local beach at the beginning of the school year. Those who take sports as an elective subject make use of the beach location all year round. In addition, the school offers water safety programs, its own swimming club in the indoor pool, and a partnership with the Bunbury Rowing Club.

Outdoor Education and Experiential Learning are an integral part of the school program. Grades 11 and 12 participate in camps, leadership programs, and subject-related excursions.

International students live on the campus of Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. The boarding school offers modern, comfortable cottage-style accommodation designed for 6 to 8 students. Younger students share double rooms and communal facilities, while older students enjoy more privacy in single rooms. The manageable size of the houses creates a familiar and friendly atmosphere. In addition, there are balanced meals and 24/7 supervision. The school has its own buses, which it uses to organize transportation to events and activities.

Outside of class, boarding school life offers many opportunities: beach trips, hiking, mountain biking, and weekend activities are just as much a part of it as group activities that allow students to experience the relaxed lifestyle of southwestern Australia.

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is a global member of the Round Square Association.
