Woolgoolga High School

Regional School

Woolgoolga High School, with its architecturally appealing buildings situated between the rainforest and the sea, has direct access to the beach via an 800-metre footpath. Kangaroos graze on the meadows of the school grounds.

Woolgoolga is a small coastal town with a population of 5,000 inhabitants, very beautiful beaches and great surfing opportunities. It is located 25 km north of Coffs Harbour, the nearest major regional centre, and is characterised by it‘s subtropical climate and relaxed lifestyle.

The academic focus of Woolgoolga High School concentrates primarily on technological areas under the heading of “learning for the 21st century”. This includes basic subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology as well as environmental and geography studies. The School also offers Engineering Studies, Marine Studies and multimedia.

A wide range of other subjects are also offered. These include the performing arts, visual arts, music, dance and photography programmes, as well as textile studies and fashion design. Every year, a musical is performed and the School also owns a large stock of musical instruments for use by students.

Woolgoolga High School is an ideal school for those who want to learn to surf. Surfing is offered every term. After a basic course in Surf Lifesaving, students learn surfing as part of the programme at a different beach with different waves each week.

There are only a few internationals at Woolgoolga High School, which encourages intensive contact with fellow Australian students and continuous English speaking.
