Maleny State High School

Regional School

Maleny State High School is a smaller school located in the beautiful hinterland of the Sunshine Coast with a family, rural atmosphere, only 25 minutes from the coast and good surfing beaches. There are a number of tourist attractions near Maleny including extensive walks through the local rainforest. The village of Maleny has many small cafes and restaurants, which are popular with locals and tourists alike.

Maleny State High School focuses on both academic and professional subjects. Small classes sizes allow for very individual attention. A special feature of this school is the seven hectare farm with many plants and animals. Students in the “Cattle Show Team” take part in agricultural events throughout the year. The school also has a strong presence in the performing arts within the regional cultural scene of the hinterland. Many live performances in music, dance and theatre are performed by students of all grades.

Maleny State High School offers the opportunity to participate in a Music Excellence Class. Students in this class engage in more advanced performance and music activities, including access to recording studios.

Since 2019, Maleny SHS has offered a Learn to Surf program for international students, in which a teacher and accredited surfing coach teach basic surfing skills. Surfboards and other equipment are provided free of charge.

During the holidays between term 2 and 3 (June/July) the school organises a ski trip to the Australian Alps.
