Helensvale State High School

Helensvale State High School is located in the suburb of the same name on the northern Gold Coast and is one of the largest high schools in the region. The school grounds are full of native vegetation and trees where koalas can regularly be seen.

The Dance Academy program develops students’ skills in performance and choreography while providing them with a broad understanding of the arts. The curriculum includes various competitions on the Gold Coast and in the wider region and offers students the opportunity to interact with industry professionals.

The Drama Academy program focuses on creativity, individuality and self-expression. Students learn how to fill different roles in theater and how to engage audiences through creative script writing. They actively participate in practical workshops with artists and present their own work to the public throughout the year.

The Creative Industries Academy combines a range of interdisciplinary skills from music, performing arts and visual arts to provide real-world experience in the creative industries and beyond. Students practice hands-on activities such as music performance and composition, sound recording, media and photography, live sound and lighting, and event organization.

Visual Arts Academy: Students learn a variety of media and artistic processes including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, mixed media, digital design, printmaking and more.

At Helensvale State High School, international students can participate in numerous school trips. These include camps to Tangalooma and Lady Elliot Island to explore the Great Barrier Reef.
