Caloundra State High School

Caloundra State High School is located at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast, just a few minutes walk from six beaches. Students can see the ocean from the school. The sea also influences interesting parts of the lessons. The regular subject “Marine Science” is offered and there is the “Surfing Development Program”. With three excellent surf beaches (Kings, Moffat and Dicky Beach) in the immediate vicinity and with the help of a local surf school, this program offers experienced surfers the opportunity to improve their skills and beginners to make their first steps or attempts to stand on the board. It is important that the students acquire parallel knowledge such as building and repairing surfboards and coastal ecology and protection.

For the tennis players, the School offers the “Elite Tennis International” with 19 courts, training and elite camp. In addition, the “Caloundra Aquatic Centre” with five pools, fitness centre and skate park are just a few hundred metres from the school.

In the academic field, the technology courses in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) deserve special mention. This is a project-based combination of digital and design technologies in connection with entrepreneurial start-up concepts.

Caloundra State High School also offers excellence programs in the performing arts, i.e. theatre, dance and music. There are several music rooms with grand and upright pianos. Students who are involved in one of the music ensembles receive free lessons on “their” instrument, which the school also makes available to them free of charge.

In 2023, Caloundra State High School launched the Coast to Country Aussie Experience program for International students, with short trips to theme parks and long tours to islands in the Great Barrier Reef and other highlights (extra cost).

The school maintains a “buddy” system, where each newcomer is initially assisted and guided by a local student.
